Jared Axelrod and Steve Walker release their debut graphic novel, THE BATTLE OF BLOOD AND INK: A FABLE OF THE FLYING CITY – TODAY.

Philadelphia, PA – April 17, 2012 – The stunning new graphic novel, THE BATTLE OF BLOOD AND INK: A FABLE OF THE FLYING CITY will be released on May 22nd, 2012. Written by Jared Axelrod and illustrated by Steve Walker, the graphic novel follows Ashe, a girl raised on the streets of the flying city of Amperstam.

If you’re visiting Amperstam without the latest printing of The Lurker’s Guide, you might as well be lost. This one-sheet is written and printed by Ashe, and is dedicated to revealing its hidden treasures and deepest secrets—including many that the government doesn’t want anyone to know. The stakes are raised when Ashe accidentally uncovers the horror of exactly how Amperstam flies. Soon Ashe is on the run from thugs and assassins, faced with the choice of imperiling her life just to keep publishing, or trading in her voice and identity for a quiet, comfortable life. It’s a war of confusion for Ashe, but one thing is very clear: just because you live in a flying city, you can’t keep your head in the clouds.

Chris Claremont, award-winning writer of the Uncanny X-Men has praised this new graphic novel: The Battle of Blood and Ink is a great read. Engaging heroine, sinister adversary, mysterious sky captain, intriguing world, fascinating setting—all taking flight in the first dozen pages.
THE BATTLE OF BLOOD AND INK is available for preorder from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and your local bookstore.

About Jared Axelrod and Steve Walker

JARED AXELROD (Writer) is an author, illustrator, graphic designer, sculptor, costume designer, podcaster, and quite a few other things. He is a founding member of the daily flash-fiction website 365 TOMORROWS, and the writer and producer of the science fiction podcasts “The Voice off Free Planet X” and the serial “Aliens You Will Meet,” as well as “Fables of the Flying City,” a podcast set in the world of The Battle of Blood and Ink.

Todd Keisling was a writer we featured on 365 a few years ago. He’s been working towards the release of his second book, The Liminal Man, and has some news to share about that. I thoroughly enjoyed his first book, and I’m excited to see him get the second book out the door.

This is reposted from Todd’s site:

—

[Announcement] We’re going to do it live.

Hello, folks. This weekend I hinted at an announcement on Facebook, but if you watched my latest video blog, you probably know what it is.

In any case, I’ll pretend you haven’t guessed and are waiting in agonizing anticipation for said announcement. Ready? Okay, here goes . . .

I’ve designated April 5th and 6th as the next two KDP Select promotional days on Amazon. For 48 hours, ALT will once again be completely free. This time around, I’ve changed up the genre classifications from Thriller to Horror. I want to see how well it treads those waters.

So ALT’s going to be free again. Big deal, right? Well, I thought about trying something a little different. Most of you have already tapped out your networks, spreading the word about ALT about as far as you can–and I’m very grateful for that. As a way of saying thanks for last time and for your continued support, I’d like to do something I’ve never done before.

On the evening of April 5th (my birthday), I will kick off a live broadcast via Ustream. Yes, a live broadcast. I know, I’m completely insane, but hear me out.

Beginning at 9 PM EST, I will go live to take your questions about ALT, TLM, and whatever comes after. And then, around 10:30 or so, I will do a live reading of TLM’s prologue. Yes, the first 2300 words of the long-awaited sequel to A LIFE TRANSPARENT.

Like I said, I’m completely insane, but I want to give this a shot. If this broadcast goes over well, I may do more things like it–such as a virtual “tour” following TLM’s release.

I’ll post my Ustream channel link on the day of the broadcast, along with instructions on how to sign up so you can participate in the chat. Signing up is completely free, too.

So there you have it. A live Q&A and reading of TLM’s prologue on April 5th. My birthday gift to you–in the tradition of hobbits.

I hope to see you there!

TK

J.R. Blackwell is a writer and photographer who lives in Philadelphia. J.R.’s fiction has been published in a variety of publications including Escape Pod Magazine. She also happens to be a founding member of www.365tomorrows.com.

J.R. is currently fundraising through KickStarter for Shelter In Place: A Live Game of Zombie Horror.

Shelter in Place is about survival, teamwork and fun. Designed for ten to twenty five players, the game captures the frenetic pace of a zombie movie in an action packed game. Players can take on the roles of Humans or Zombies in a desperate conflict to survive. Humans must use their wits to survive, making sacrifices in order to live through the night. The Zombies must use their brute, unrelenting strength and teamwork to overpower the humans and eat some delicious brains.

Shelter in Place blends all the fun of a good old-fashioned game of tag, with the camp and action of a zombie horror film. The system was created to be easy to read and understand for new gamers, but still a fun challenge to more experienced players. Shelter in Place comes with the option to add special “twist” characters who can change the game – from adding a cyborg to a vampire, these twist characters can make every game a surprise!

Shelter in Place can be played at a park, home, convention, as a team building exercise for a hip workplace, as a kids’ summer camp game, or at a lighthearted wedding reception.

Shelter in Place is finished and ready to go to print. Your support will help us release Shelter in Place in our first print run, and ensure that we can bring the game to conventions and backyards everywhere.

There are some great rewards for backers of the project, not the least of which is the knowledge that you’re helping jumpstart a game project that looks to be all kinds of fun.

Back the project and get more details on the KickStarter page.
